"Delicious Mountains" was started as a Gift of Quilting class project, taught by Linda Potter, a former AAQG member and president. She taught us an accurate strip-pieced method for the Delectable Mountains block. Linda had sewn simple blanket stitches around the colored edges of her blocks, which also function as the quilting. I was getting interested in edge-stitching applique with Crazy Quilt stitches, so I decided to add a variety of stitches to the blocks. Of course, this required shopping for really cool perle 8 threads, beads, charms, and stitch books. I also added some embroidered motifs, such as my mom's Mexican Lime tree and a Royal Poinciana tree in my backyard because it was my favorite climbing tree. It is quilted with Linda's Needle Magic stitch process from her book "Quilt & Embellish in One Step!" (C&T, 2004). Edge stitches mostly from Judith Baker Montano's "Elegant Stitches" (C&T, 1995) and "Embroidery & Crazy Quilt Stitch Tool" (C&T, 2008), and Sue Spargo's "Creative Stitching" (2012, www.suespargo.com). It was fun! |
