The inspiration for this quilt was a photo I saw at the Austin American-Statesman website in September of 2012. The article was about our upcoming quilt show. One photo showed a block someone had made & I loved it. I didn't have a clue if the block had a name or how it was put together, but I saved the photo to my computer. I looked at the photo from time to time, and one day I saw that it could be made from a series of nine patches. Not wanting to copy her exactly, I changed the design of my block & set the blocks on-point. The tangerine squares were appliqued to add a punch of pizzazz. Much later, I discovered the name of the original block - Carpenter's Square. It has a very modern look to it, but is in fact a block that was used in the 1800's. |
