Comments

This quilt had many twists and turns. I started with a multi-colored stripe fabric from which my color design originated. Wanting to make a star medallion, I began by designing a log cabin paper-pieced pattern. I used light and dark earth tone fabrics but when I arranged them to form the star, I was not satisfied with the contrast. I researched ideas on Interest and located "Autumn Splendor" by Kingston Heirloom Quilters from Portsmouth Village, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I contacted their president and was given permission to adapt their design. While our quilts had similarities, there were also substantial differences. I added vines and flowers around the center of my quilt, framed the center section with a black border and added another set of flowers in the border. At one point, I also paper-pieced more log cabin diamonds but opted to not use those diamonds since they distracted from the center diamond star. Currently my quilt is being quilted by Angela McCorkle. I am anxiously awaiting to see her gorgeous work.
