I love the geometric designs of Norah McMeeking and wanted to take the class as soon as I saw the picture in QUIPS. Since I am a novice quilter (this is my fourth quilt), I did not think I could sew the curved seams. I was thrilled to learn that the curves were an illusion! I had never used the Foundation Piecing technique before, but discovered with this quilt that I love the precision more than I hate pulling off the paper.
The cottons on the quilt top are by Cherrywood Fabrics. I love the richness of the jewel tones and the almost suede-like texture of the fabric. Most of the top is machine-pieced, but the honey and cream circles in the center are hand-appliqued. I used Electric Quilt to design the center and border - auditioning more than 30 borders and 6 medallions (without cutting any fabric!) - to find these perfect complements to the spokes in the body of the quilt.
