FIRE!!! That dreaded word too frequently heard in mountain communities where water is scarce and must be trucked in by volunteer fire departments. The swirls of this Twisted Log Cabin remind me of this scene. The yellow blocks look like flames licking around the sides of the quilt, the black centers the desolation that is left. The black borders represent the woods that have already been burned; the saw-toothed borders, the active flames still growing. The quilting patterns continue the theme as well -- the smoke rising in grays and reds over the embers of yellow. Oh! what a gruesome scene!
