This quilt commemorates the sesquicentennial celebration of Christ Church in Napoleonville, Louisiana. One of the oldest Episcopal churches west of the Mississippi River, it is on the National Register of Historic Places and is an excellent example of American Gothic architecture. Many of the building materials came from the plantation of my great-great-grandfather, William Whitmell Pugh, a founding member of the church. The quilt is constructed in three panels showing the rear of the church in winter, the center arch in spring, and the front view in summer. The figure standing under the arch is that of my mother, who was in my original photograph.
